I am trying to chroma key a video clip which has a green backdrop which does not cover the entire viewing area. In Premiere, I was able to crop out the parts which did not have the green screen. I can not figure out how to do this in AE. I have searched for “crop” here on Creative Cow and could not find anything. Is there a different word to search for?

    Steve,

What you want is the MASK tool. Look in your tool palette, and you’ll find a marquee selection tool and a pen tool. Use these to draw masks onto your layers.

Always good to check the manual or the in-app help.

Now I know to look for mask. Masking had crossed my mind, but it seemed as if there should be an easier way. The in program help had almost nothing on cropping. It helps to know the word to look for, thanks.
