  • Cropping overlay picture on render

Posted by Scott Sullivan on August 8, 2013 at 3:05 am

Reposting here since I’m still looking for a solution.
I have a picture that completely overlays a video – using the audio from the video as a voiceover.

The picture completely fills the screen in editing but when I render the picture is slightly cropped on the right and left sides showing the video underneath!

Render settings and still sample is here:

Anybody have any idea about this? This is really strange!

You’ll need to upload it as a FILE not an image, otherwise we won’t know what the COW will do to it in the UPLOAD. Don’t put it in a ZIP ‘cos that might change it too. Just what IS that graphic created with? What does one of the Graphics packages say its format is? Not just a JPg or Png?

    Interesting.

ALSO, do a screengrab of your WorkSpace; your Timeline and Track Header; show clearly the area that your Graphic is sitting.

I really want to get to the bottom of this one.

    Cheers

    Thanks Grazie.
Ok first, it does it to all of my pictures. Its not like any one pic is problematic. They all do that upon render.

    Here is the screen grab:

    See anything wrong?

Ok here is a perfect example of the problem.

On the left is the video that was rendered. You see the brown “stripes” on the left and right sides? That is the underlying video there! But notice the same image in the Sony viewer on the right. No “stripes” of the underlying video.

Here are the precise settings that produced this error:

And when you play it on a DVD in a STB? What happens then?

    I’m not giving up . . yet!

Your Pan/Crop window is scrolled down – what setting do you have for your Preset (at the top of the Pan/Crop window)? Examples are (Default), 1:1 Square aspect ratio, 4:3 Standard TV aspect ratio, 16:9 TV aspect ratio, 1.85:1 Academy aspect ratio, or (Untitled)?

Also, I notice that your Size About Center button on the left side of the Pan/Crop window is not enabled. To have pictures show up correctly in the video output, I have both the Lock Aspect Ratio and Size About Center buttons enabled, then select the type of output I am going to have in the Preset box at the top (i.e. Preset to 16:9 TV aspect ratio if I’m creating a Widescreen DVD project). I have run into instances where a picture (or a group of them) have the edge slightly cropped on the left and right side like it appears you are experiencing. What I have done is to disable the Lock Aspect Ratio button in this case, leaving the Size About Center button enabled (like it appears you are set now) and carefully drag the top or bottom handle of the zoom box up or down slightly to get rid of the cropped edges.

Andrew I’d agree with you, but for the fact that all is well within the Vegas Preview Window. Also I can tell there is 16:9 setup.

For some odd reason this Render process is OVERscanning just left and right AND this is being ignored by Windows Media Player. – Do you see what I’m driving at?

The bottom line here is that whatever is “seen” within the Preview Window in Vegas should be being rendered. Some how the Picture is being ignored by MC?!

    Cheers Andrew,
