I’ve found no solution to this problem: I’ve always been able to crop an HD video in FCP in Compressor from 1440 x 1080 to 280 x 204. But with my new camera I’m shooting at 1920 x 1080 and even though I’m using the same settings in Compressor it always goes to 478 x 349, even though it’s also cropped in the Preview area of Compressor. Apple told me to crop more in the Preview area, but this didn’t result in a solution. Need to crop two videos this weekend… any ideas?

    Thanks.

Harry: you opened the cropped file in QuickTime X and the dimensions were 479 x 348. If you tried opening in QuickTime 7, you would see that the file opens at the correct dimension, 280 x 204. Why QuickTime X doesn’t open at the smaller, correct dimension, I don’t know. But Final Cut and Compressor did their jobs properly.
