  • Cropping in AE using rulers?..

Heya. Ok, so I saw someone appearing to use rulers/guides to crop off part of a layer, allowing the layer to moved and be revealed beneath it, without having to animate masks or put solids in etc. I can’t fathom it – was this a dream?

    Andrew

    Press ” Alt/Optn + ‘ ” and ” Shift + ‘ ” to enable Proportional Grid and Grid respectively.

Press ” Cntl + Shift + ‘ ” to Enable Snap to grid.

You can crop the layer visibility by using Region of Interest Option. But this is not cropping of layer. Its only affecting its visibility.

In the same way use a mask and Toggle Off the Mask and Path Visibility to crop the layer visibility.

This will create an impression that you are cropping without any mask.

Though you have to change the Bounding Box of Mask path to change the shape.

Don’t know any other option to crop off part of a layer.

Ahah, great, yeah it must have been region of interest I was thinking about. Unfortunately this applies for a whole composition so either i need to pre-comp or just do it the usual way with masks.
    Thanks for the reply 🙂
