Thanks Shane. That does work.

And then I ran into the next thing.
After a few seconds, the images on the left and right need to freeze.
Usually I create a freeze frame, but here the freeze frame has the size of the orginal footage and not of the cropped size.
Is there a way to freeze the cropped image?

Yes, What Shane says. Or build a mask in photoshop first, any shapes you need. The use alpha keying and crop controls to wipe stuff in and out or move it from behind using blending modes. I think if you make a mask, changing the other elements may be easier if you have to make a change later.

MAke the freeze frame, and then apply the same garbage matte to it. Copy and then Paste Addributes:Filters, or drag the filter from the Viewer onto the clip.

… Or use a speed change for the freeze frame.

In my case the easiest solution seems the Garbage Matte 4 point + create a freeze frame and change the speed of that frame to zero.
