I have a sequence to which I’ve added an adjustment layer/track with the Crop effect so I can crop out some extraneous imagery at the margins. Naturally, this has created black bars on all four sides. I can live with bars on two sides, so I’d like to scale up the cropped image to eliminate the other two. If I scale the adjustment layer/track, it scales the bars, not the cropped image. If I apply another adjustment layer/track above the first and scale that, nothing happens. How can I achieve the effect I want? Maybe the adjustment layer/track isn’t the right approach to begin with. Thanks for any tips.

If you want to avoid scaling up your main image (which is a solution and you’d just have to readjust your cropping accordingly), you could perhaps go to a smaller sequence size. For example, if your sequence is 1080, go to 720. This way you won’t mess with upscaling your original footage.

Is there a reason you’re applying the Crop effect to an adjustment layer rather than to the clip itself? Just asking because it seems the simplest way to fix this would be to apply the Crop effect to the clip, set the crop the way you want it, and then scale up the clip as desired.

Jeez, you know, that’s a really good question. I don’t remember why I chose to do it that way. I just deleted the adjustment layer, scaled the clip, applied the crop and, voila, done. Thanks for the nudge.
