I have recently shot a short film in 24p with a Panasonic AG-DVX100B.

In a particular scene, in every take, the boom and mic appear in the left and top edges of the film. I knew from prior experience with Final Cut Pro, that I could just overlay two streams of video, the one I wanted to see on top, and crop the one on top. By cropping the left and top edges, I could bring the film from behind into view, which didn’t have the boom and mic. Thus, it would look like there was no boom or mic in the shot.

The whole scene was shot on the tripod, so the background which I was changing never really moved. The light stayed consitant as well.

But, right after I cropped the top video layer, the area of the film that wasn’t being cropped blurred slightly. For some reason, every time I cropped any edge of it, the rest kept blurring slightly.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening, and how to fix it?

Try rendering the clip. FCP may be playing back at lower quality to show you the effect without having to render.
