crop tool stuck on 1 pixel
Posted by Alan Stephens on May 21, 2012 at 6:14 pmI CS5.1 my cropping tool will only produce a cropped image of 1 pixel square, no matter how I try to crop the image. I works normal in CS5
rebooting doesn’t help. Lion 10.7.4
How can I fix this?THX

May 22, 2012 at 6:06 pmEgads! This is a dumb question, but when you have the crop tool selected, look at the tool info up top. There should be “width,” “height,” “resolution” and, on the right, a “clear” button. You likely have “1px” in the width and height fields and should be able to click on “clear” to revert back to the default Crop tool.
Failing that, trash the prefs (Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings). Hope that helps.
I am running CS3 on this machine so it may be different with CS5.1.

May 23, 2012 at 2:58 pmThe clear button fixed it! I never looked at that function,
I just always crop manually.Thanks!

May 23, 2012 at 11:34 pmHey no worries, it happens to all of us. I use the size features for things like client avatars and such so I can quickly get a huge logo down to a simple jpeg with a crop and a resize in one go. Then I always forget to clear it… 😉

July 24, 2014 at 11:19 amhi,
i have the same problem but i am really struggling to find this reset tool,
i have read several forums and explanations as to where it is, but i just can not see it.I am highlighting a cropped selection…
i can see the following:
info toolbar
navigation toolbar, histogram
as well as history, actions, brushes, clone source, top presets etcand i can’t do much with anyone of the above anyway, as things are like greyed out or unselectable and give me a beep.
i am using cs3 on a mac 10.5
thanks -

July 24, 2014 at 2:24 pmSorry but I have forgotten. however,I think I found it. open an image and select a crop. In the upper center you may see a counter clockwise arrow, and click it to reset. you have to have a the crop tool engaged in a crop but not completed. btw I’m on CS6.
You may also try the menu, window/workspace/reset …
let me know if it works.Alan Stephens

August 18, 2014 at 6:55 pmDunno if you’ve seen this answer or not; I don’t see it in the thread; the 1 stitch you seem to be missing is one I also missed at first:
In the CROP tool, the only time you see the option to CLEAR either “width” or “height” is when you first open the tool. Once you start dragging a marquis to set those params visually, that option goes away.
One more thing you may or may not already know; you can make those tool options (and all the pallets) appear and disappear by toggling the TAB key …unless of course you happen to be in the type tool … oooops… If you accidentally or otherwise made the tool options disappear, you can toggle them back again.
Just 1 more thought: there are no stupid questions.
