  • Crop blurs Image?

Posted by Ian Smith on March 11, 2008 at 1:40 pm

I have a simple set up where I am filming a person in front of a solid white screen. I crop off the edges of the screen and give the background the same white.
When I am cropping the video (shot in SD 720X480), I start with the two sides… all is good.
As soon as I touch the crop for the top, the image becomes distorted. It actually looks like the video is stuck between interlaces.

Am I cropping wrong? If so, what can I do to get this same effect another way?

Make sure the vertical position is on a whole EVEN integer setting.

I have always made sure that, that is what I do. And in this case it is, and is still blurring…
I have the problem fixed now, by dragging the entire video up or down one verticle number, the image comes back into focus. (your reply reminded me to try similar)
Do you know why this is?
I asume it is due to the interlacing the video is shot, but I don’t actually have any professional instruction on that exact issue. Maybe to do with which resolution lines are refreshed at what time.
Any info is appreciated…. just looking for a little more education.

Thanks for the speedy reply, and the help.
