Crop around tracked motion?
Hi guys,
Thought this might be an appropriate question to ask here.
I have tracked a head moving in a scene, i then want to crop the film to an area around the head so that final composition focuses on the head.
The reason for this is that i have just done Aharon’s tutorial on cartoonification and liked it a lot, however looked a bit silly because none of the face was really visible as it was not prominent enough feature. Was thinking perhaps by running again for at least lines over the close face with less other distractions i could get better definition and then merge.

If you are just trying to crop out the head that you have tracked I would do the following:
– Create a new solid that is the dimensions of the area you want to include.
– Position it over the head and then link the new solid layer’s position to the attatch point of the tracker that tracks the head. Make sure this layer is directly above the layer containing the footage of the head.
– Set the layer with the footage of the head’s Track matte to “Alpha matte.” Then you should have a nice crop of the head.This will definetly work, but maybe someone has a less convoluted workflow you could follow.

Thanks a lot, that worked well for cropping the head, however would be ideal now if i could keep the head in the centre of the composition so instead of the head moving around, the video clip moves around to ensure the head is always in the centre

To do this you won’t wan’t to track the motion of the head, you will want to stabilize the motion of the head. The process is quite simple, just click the “Stabilize motion” option in the tracker controls pallette. Theres a lot of info on this in the AE Help files too.
