    Hi all,

I’m pretty new to FCP. I have a video clip shot at 1440×1080 (HDV) and I need to crop and re-size it to 750×190 to play in a website banner. When I export it to the final size FCP automatically crops it to maintain the aspect ratio (actually I ask it to maintain the aspect ratio by clicking a box). The video looks great except for the fact that the wrong parts (asthetically speaking) have been cropped off. How can I control cropping and still maintain the aspect ratio? What tools in FCP do I need to be using? Any help will be very much appreciated!

Create a custom sequence in final cut pro and make it the size of the banner. (apple KEY “0” (zero)) will do this.

When you drop the shot into the sequence you can arrange how you want it to fall into that timeline.

    David,

Thank you so much! Worked great. I am, however, getting a very thin green line across the very bottom edge of the exported video. Any ideas why?

    Thanks,

Open the motion tab and make sure that all of the numbers XY cordinates are even numbers like 1, 2 or 3 etc.

    Instead of 1.23,

    Hi David,

I checked the above but all the numbers look okay.

I’ve determined that the green line at the bottom edge of my video only shows up when I am applying a color or density correction of some sort. How can I apply color correction (Color Corrector 3 way in FCP) and not get a bright lime green line (2 pixels wide) at the bottom of my video that only appears when I’m using a custom sequence?

    Thanks again for your help!

    Interesting.

Have you tried to reproduce the problem with the 2 way color corrector?

I have a blue line on the very left of my frame, through all of the media. And, I can’t recapture. How can I crop or scale so that the left-most pixel line will be cut off. And, even more importantly, how do I make FCP “finalize” the crop. I’ve cropped and scaled, and then exported to a QT movie. But, there’s a black line in place of the blue one. Can’t FCP “zoom in” on the cropped portion? I know it will hurt the resolution a bit, but that’s better than a blue line. Thank you very much (and yes, I’m a novice)!
