creative cloud vs non creative cloud
Posted by Tom Adams on November 22, 2013 at 6:51 pmCan someone tell me if it’s true that there are features available to owners of Premiere Pro “Creative Cloud” version that are NOT available to non-creative cloud owners?
and if so, why are non-creative cloud owners not allowed to simply click “update” to get said features?

November 22, 2013 at 7:11 pmDon’t know specifics…
But generally, Adobe is moving away from traditional perpetual licensing to SAS (Software as Service) pretty much exclusively. It’s just a decision that they made that they feel is better for their business. I offer this description matter-of-factly and with no opinion one way or the other. Users will ultimately determine if this is a model that will work.
Already there have been a number of editing and inter-application workflow functions that have been released exclusively for CC version, but my understanding is Adobe has continued to patch CS6 to keep it up to date with most modern media formats and fix show stopping bugs that have popped up on 6.
Don’t know how long that patches will go on…Technically at some point in the future the code base will become so bifurcated that there will probably be some some things that CS6 version as a code base just isn’t intended to do. I imagine at that point Adobe would like cease patching and adding media non- compatible media formats, but as I don’t work for Adobe…I can’t hazard as to when that would be.
So that’s where it’s at….there’s a whole other forum dedicated to the debate over this business model.
Hope you find this helpful.
thanks!

November 22, 2013 at 7:19 pmYes. A ton of new features are available in the latest versions of adobes apps, now titled CC instead of CS6 for example. Premiere CC is essentially CS7. There is ONLY the CC now. There are no more non CC sales or boxed products. So, if god example you own PPro CS6, that’s the previous version of the software. Normally you would have to pay hundreds to update to CS7 discs. But there is no CS7. Just CC. There’s not any point in version numbers for a subscription service. You now have to rent Adobes latest software. They don’t sell it. Did you expect to buy CS6 (or earlier) and get free updates forever? They never did that. And now paid updates are gone because, well, they don’t sell software anymore. Make sense?

November 22, 2013 at 7:35 pmCS6 was released in April 2012. Thats one version ago. There were many updates over that year before the next version CC was released. So your assumption was correct. Either duped or uneducated. But the latter sounds a little harsh. CS6 is actually still in demand because you actually own it and it should work as long as you have the appropriate hardware. If you don’t pay your CC bill every month, your apps will cease to function in 30 days.

November 22, 2013 at 7:37 pmhmm, I wonder if adobe is offering any “break” or how I would go about updating my current NON-cloud premiere 6 to the more current CREATIVE CLOUD version.
I feel cheated.. especially since I just recently bought the non-creative cloud version. of course, maybe I should have read more thoroughly the extremely confusing information offered deep within the adobe website
crap!

November 22, 2013 at 7:45 pmThey do generally offer some pretty good discounts to current users along the lines of committing to a year or 2 of subscription (they don’t take all the money at once…you just get a better monthly rate with the commitment. )
Don’t feel too bad…
You always have a perpetual license of CS6 to fall back on. My last perpetual (personal) license is CS3. 🙂Alex

November 22, 2013 at 8:36 pmGo here and click on MEMBERSHIP PLANS:
https://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud.html
Then in the INDIVIDUAL PLAN area, click on the dropdown menu that says ANNUAL PLAN, BILLED MONTHLY. YOu’ll see an option there for people who owned CS3 and up. Normal price is $50 a month, but if you have CS3+, then it’s only $30 a month. So there is a discount.
Note that you will be constantly paying this subscription fee, for as long as you want to use the software. It’s now a “service” like cable TV or phone. There is no perpetual ownership.

I think the grace period is 99 days.

November 25, 2013 at 9:18 am99 days in offline mode is what the Adobe FAQ says for annual memberships. 30 days of offline mode if you are on a month to month plan.
