    Hi,

I know this is a DVD creation forum but what do you all suggest is the best or most common resolution to create HD work in for DVD playback..either in FCP or Motion. I have typically done Broadcast SD 720×480 for 480i.

Is 1920×1080 always the best in every case? That is the norm for 1080p hey? so even if you are in 1080i or 720p 1920×1080 will do all the best?

    any comments? thanks…

Whatever your footage is, keep it at that, including progressive or interlace.

cool thanks… what if you are working with graphic based stuff in motion. no capture. what do you typically default to for a project… HDV 720p60, DVCPRO HD 720p/30 or 60 or DVCPRO HD 1080p30?

Total graphic, like a menu, not going to be integrated with any video, I would probably use 720p, easier on the system there probably would be a noticeable difference when downconverted to SD. It would cross-convert to 1080i okay if you need to put it with your footage down the road. But there is not a real right or wrong answer here.

DV I/O to camera or FCP.

Camera in VTR mode, not on THumbnail mode > play clip on the FS hit Red REcord and Gray button on by the handle.

FCP Log and Capture > play clip on FS hit Capture Now in FCP.
