  • Creating WMV files – New issue

Posted by Mike Hennelly on March 7, 2013 at 7:12 pm

    Hi again.

Now it seems that when I create WMV files from version 6, the longer the clip, the more Out of Sync the audio goes! Again, this only happens with WMV files. I am using the default settings in the Windows Media codec, NTSC DV preset, except I click on the “Use Maximum Render Quality” and “Use Frame Blending” checkboxes. Is anyone else having any issues with WMV files created in Version 6?

    Thanks

Which preset (or settings) are you using? I haven’t heard of this actually, can you tell us more about the sequence audio rate, video rate?

    Thanks,

    Here’s the scoop…

I upgraded to Premiere Pro Version 6 in December 2013. We usually shoot in XDCam EX 1080i60 HD. We then create WMV files (720×480) to upload or send to clients to review. Most of our clients get WMVs as their final product as well to post on internal sites.

The first problem I was having when trying to render out WMVs is that the first attempt would always fail. (If I tried to render from the program itself or with Media Encoder.) After that first fail, I would try again and it would work fine. Except….

Most of the programs that I created in January and early February were not long (everything was under 10 mins.) Then I made some WMVs for a client that were close to an hour long and that’s when we noticed the audio was out of sync. (It was fine at the beginning, but at the end it was way out of whack!)

This only happens with WMV files. I remade the files as MP4s and all were fine. (No first fail, no out of sync audio, all from the same timeline and same project.)

As I said in my original post… I am using just the preset settings for the widows media export, all I change is the check boxes at the bottom (I click on the “use maximum render quality” and “use frame blending” check boxes.)

The source footage for this project with the longer clips was

    720×480, 29.97fps, Lower
    48000Hz, stereo

I made MP4s and m2v’s from this same footage and same sequence with no problems. WMVs – first attempt fail, then next it renders out with the audio progressively going out of sync.

Sorry about the long winded explanation.

Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Mike,

I have it on good authority that this was an issue fixed in the AME 6.0.1 update. Can you confirm?

Try turning off frame blending if you are keeping the same frame rate.
