    Hey guys need some advice

Im making this post across 3ds max, C4d and After effects as i dont know which program to use for this in case one is better.

I need to create a visual representation of smells (for instance seeing a fart)
They need to be able to be manipulated as if being blown away with a hand.
What technique would be the best to create this and would C4d be better than the other 2 stated above.

Thanks guys just a general question any feedback would help ????
    cheers

I’d use Trapcode Particular plugin in After Effects but if you don’t own that plugin I believe it to be very complicated with AE tools alone. With Particular I’d use a “cloudy” sprite as particle, then I’d move the flux of particles along a Path and then a combination of Wind or Spherical Field to blow the particles away.
With C4D I’d use Thinking Particles

This is a gas/fluid simulation so the best thing to use would be a purpose-built simulator like the TurbulenceFD plugin for Cinema. X-Particles could also do a pretty good job with or without fluid simulation. The next best option in Cinema would be Thinking Particles with Pyrocluster. Can’t speak to 3dsmax, though, as I haven’t used it in years.

    Hey adam

Just had a question about turbulence or x particles.
i have a scene where the person need to push the particles/smoke/smells away with his hands or blow then away.
is there any way to do that with either of these tools.
and if so could you recommend a method or maybe a video.

    cheers

    Hi Jesse,

Yes, both TFD and xParticles provide for dynamics/collision. Here’s a quick example I did with TFD: https://www.3danvil.com/temp/Fart_.mov
