Using Premiere Pr CS 5.5 to make movies to be run on Iphone 4. I have used all the presets that are in the Preset tab for Iphone. I have also used CBR, Vbr 1 and 2 and I get a video(Mp4) that does not come up to the quality of the same video that I have done in Compressor(Creating an M4v file) when both run in Itunes.

Am I left with exporting the XML file to FCP7 and finishing in Compressor. This is all done on the same IMAC

Here are the formats acceptible for iPhone in general:

    Video Format: MP4, MOV, M4V
    Video Size: up to 640×480
    Video Framerate: up to 30fps
Video Bitrate: up to 1.5Mbps for H.264, or 2.5Mbps for MPEG-4
Audio: AAC up to 160Kbps, 48kHz

I have been consistently outputting high-quality video for a client’s sales staff’s iPhones at 640 x 480, 30fps, H.264 at around 1Mbps. It’s very viewable, no jerkiness, audio sounds great (audio encoding at 128Kbps – mono or stereo, depending on whether there’s a music bed or not), and all the graphics are readable. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. I played around a little bit more and found that if I set the Encoder to H.264 and Preset to HDTV 1080p 29.97 target bit rate to 32Mbps for 30 second clip it would yield a 144 mb file with really great quality. I took this file into Handbrake set the Preset to Iphone4 and it ylelds a M4v file the size of 18mb and quality is same as the 144mb file
