Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to put an image like this figure into a tree ring texture so that it looks organic (maybe made up of the annual rings) instead of just stamped on with overlay etc. This was my first attempt but like I said it looks stamped on. test.jpg

I’d really appreciate any ideas on this ultimately I’m hoping to track it onto a moving log in some live-action footage.

    Thanks!

Hi there, I think I understand what you are going for.

You could try selecting the darker parts of the artwork using Select / Color Range.
Copy the selection to a new layer and then play around with the settings of the Emboss Layer Style.

Once you have something that looks like its adding some depth to the figure then place it on your wooden background image toggle through the blending modes (Shift +) to find the best method, which may be overlay or something else.

Hope that gives some extra options without needing to get into 3D software which would of course add a lot more reality.
