Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy creating stars

  • Posted by Sarah Hollender on July 27, 2009 at 6:11 pm

    Hi,

I was wondering if there is anyway using any of the filters in Final Cut to create a “star system”. I have a shot in which a character looks up into the night sky – and wanted to create some stars. I don’t have photoshop or nay other programs except Final Cut Pro. Anyone have any ideas/help?

    Thanks in advance,

    Sarah

Motion has some Particle Systems with stars, but they are not stationary, maybe you can tweak them. I have seen a good star generator in Boris Continuum.

You can find a public domain starscape at one of NASA’s websites. Just make sure that it’s public domain!

Or you can use a program light Lightwave or Celestia to generate a star field.

I’ll second Kevins suggestion. The preset for this in Motion is quite good. If you dont want it to move, just export a still.

Or, you can buy a graphic from iStockPhoto.com.

You can very easily create a moving or still starfield exactly like you want in FCP using a matte generator clip and two of the Joe’s Filters, Color Noise and levels. Just apply the color noise and set it to monochrome. dial up the noise size to taste. Use the levels filter to selectively create your starfield. Easy as pie.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Telly,

Assuming that compliment was for me, thank you, and credit yourself for teaching me much about FCP.

    Have a wonderful day.
