  • creating SD DV files at 0.9 pix

Posted by Justin Lovell on February 6, 2012 at 11:53 pm

I’m grading HD footage in resolve to output to a mini-DV tape (don’t ask..) Plan was to do the grade then output a DV compatible file, then play out to tape in Premiere or FCP.

What is the best method for creating SD DV files at 0.9pix aspect?
    And what codec to use?

    Thanks for the advice!

Fastest solution is using Apple’s compressor or Adobe’s Encoder,
Both have got presets for DV25 and DV50,
Render ProRez from resolve and drop in to either of the above..
Not too sure about your pixel aspect of .9 Do you mean square ?
Adobe has a pixel aspect choice of 1.0940 or 1.4587 for widescreen 16:9

DV aspect ratio is .9 pix.
When outputting to a mini-dv tape it must constrain to that proportion.

If kept at square pix, the image will be stretched.

You should contact Rohit about the DV topic..
He was investigating that a while ago.
Bottom line, it was not working at that time.
    Maybe it does now..
