  • creating roughness map myself for object with more than 1 part, how?

This question is about creating a roughness map. I’ve got this 3D painting: frame + canvas. it is 1 object. The canvas is glossy, the frame is not so glossy. How do I go about creating a roughness map? when looking for the answer all I get is where to put the map for PBR. Or some program creating it for you. I’d like to be able to give both parts it’s own glossieness. How? do I select polygons (not straight at the edge of canvas) or is there some other way?

    Thanks

    Hans

one way is to look at the UVs, if it isnt already, make the frame a seperate island, then create a texture, add a UV layer to it (it creates a layer with UV lines drawn on it), then export that. Open in PS or similar and paint the maps you need.

If the UVs have already been laid out and you dont want to change them, maybe use polygon selections instead.

    Hi Hans,

As long as it is in one object, select the polygons, either the frame or canvas, choose the easiest for you, then apply another material to it, copying it from the first material, then download the Materialize program, which is a free and easy-to-use and there are tutorials about it on YouTube, so open your texture on Materialize and create the roughness map with ease, then put it in its place in the material that you want to give a certain glossy. Let me know if this works for you or if you encounter any other problems.
