Hi, is there a way to use an image (possibly applied as a material) to create point selections? Ideally this would work on a luminance basis. I know this is kind of a wierd one (mixing the 2d and 3d worlds) but I thought it was worth a shot.

    Thanks,

    Will

There’s probably a much slicker way, but I wonder if you use the image deformer on a plane so that it will say raise the points that are lighter. Then you can square marquee them in a front view window.

Sorry, I haven’t heard of the image deformer. Am I missing something?

    Thanks,

Sorry, after actully opening C4D to look, it’s not a deformer but an object primitive called ‘relief object’. It can be found under either primitive menu.

Are you wanting to use a 2D image to ‘trace’ over to then go onto create a 3D model – i.e. place the points and then bridge them to make polys?? You can do this by going to the relvant viewport (within C4D) you have the original image in i.e. LH elevation etc and then click on ‘edit’ within the viewport, select ‘Configure’ and then click on ‘Back’ from the attributes slections and add the path of the image in.

Here’s a link to a plugin that does it a slightly different way.

You can also try the Vectorizer object, which is found in the spline objects menu.
