I’ve checked the help file, and I’ve read about point text vs. paragraph text…but for the life of me, I can’t get the text to show up as a paragraph.

When I make a text layer and try to type past the bounding box, instead of wrapping down to the next line, it starts typing at the beginning again and writes on top of my previous text. I’ve tried it in both Point Text mode and Paragraph Text mode with the exact same result.

What simple step am I missing? Seems like typing a paragraph would be very easy.

Well the help file made it look like “Paragraph” text (as opposed to “Point” text) would behave like a paragraph in a word processor.

    From the Help file: https://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/AfterEffects/8.0/help.html?content=WS3878526689cb91655866c1103906c6dea-7cee.html

The text does not behave like the help file says it should.

The reason I ask is that a student of mine wants to do the Star Wars style text crawl at the start of his video. You wouldn’t type that in one line at a time, would you?

[Dave LaRonde] “AE doesn’t do text wrapping on text layers. What if you wanted to crawl a big, long line of text? “

AE does do text wrapping on text layers, you just have to convert it from point text to paragraph text.

As for your problem, it sounds like your leading (the space between lines) is far too low. Select your text layer and change it to ‘Auto’ or a higher custom value. The leading is just to the right of the font size in the Character palette.

Thanks for the help guys. Darby, you were right. Once I changed the leading the paragraphs worked as they should. Now I’ll be deluged with Star Wars-style scrolling text intros to all my students’ movies.

    Thanks again!
