Not sure the FCP forum is best for this question, but didn’t know where else to post. I need to generate a few versions of a video with different open captions, or burnt in subtitles, in various foreign languages. I have at my disposal SRT files for each of the languages, as well as FCP, Compressor, or Telestream Episode.

Any easy solution to do this? Is there another piece of software to add to the mix? Final deliverables are web videos, so no tape or DVD.

    Thanks.

From the SRT files it may be possible to create XMLs that you can import into FCP and lay down on a separate layer. Then export out your movie one per language if you need ‘burnt-in’ subtitles.

If you need to make a DVD then the SRT files may be convertible to STL that imports into DVDStudio Pro. So you can have user-selectable subtitles ;like they have in movie DVDs.

In the past I’ve used a little app called ‘Title Exchange Pro’ to convert subtitle files to XML for FCP and STL for DVD Studio. Might be worth checking their site to see if they can do what you need.

This article is also quite helpful:

TitleExchange can convert from SRT to STL or XML.

    You may try it.

P.S. Neil I’m looking for an easy solution to implement the slow NTSC timing into the app so that the user don’t have to worry. It works with the current version, but it’s complicated with the setup.
