I’m all at sea over this question but I’m finding that to create a podcast (A/v) it’s taking over one hour to render out a screen capture that is only 3gigs in size.

I convert the screen capture to a photo JPEG and then import that into the FCP and add a motn intro and extro and about 4 transitions. Total time of 10.53 mins.

I’m then exporting this to compressor and have experimented with both the apple presets ( Apple/ Apple devices/H.264 for iPod video and iPhone 320×240 and Apple/apple devices/H.264 for iPod video and iPhone 640×480). In both cases, the “cooking” time goes from 25 mins to 1hr 53mins etc etc…

If it helps; original resolution of the screen capture is 1024×768. Motion template is set to the same. Rendered out from a PC as Photo JPEG.

I realise that this could very well be a ‘blonde’ question. But I’m really frustrated and with an audience of over 6000 subscribers for how-to podcasts now, It’s not giving me a warm fuzzy feeling, right now.

Machine: Mac Pro 2×2.8ghz Quad core
    Memory: 4gb
Other apps open while rendering: zero.

    Help? Please?

I’m sorry, but what is the question?

    Tom,
Sorry, I was caught up in the fervor of writing!

The question is: Why is it taking FCP/compressor nearly 2 hours to build a m4v? That is only 10 mins long?
Initially after I export I get the dialogue that tells me 22 mins – which is great… this rapidly goes to over an hour and keeps climbing.

Could it be set up? Caching? ghosts in the machine? When I first built Mov’s and m4v’s it took 35 mins. Is it because I have a 4meg motn file as an intro and extro?

Maybe it’s because I’m just merely stupid – and I am more than willing to accept that from someone in the know.

    Many thanks and apologies,

    Lawrence

Do not use he export to Compressor function. Export a QuickTime Movie and take that to Compressor. Render everything in FCP before you export and mixdown your audio before you export.

    All the best,
