Hey, big brains…I do a lot of DVD reauthoring to add closed captions and I hate reconstructing menus. I recently replaced some vobs with captioned vobs into a VIDEO_TS folder, tried creating a disc image in DVD Shrink (no compression) and also with the Disc Utility on my Mac and it has full functionality but the captions do not play. They are still on the vobs right before the image mux but they get lost in the disc image muxing process. Any idea how I can do this and keep the line 21 captions? I think there’s a program that will do that but I’d rather not buy it if I can do it without it.

DVDs don’t use the line 21 method for closed captions. They are encoded in a specific caption file and added to the DVD in the authoring process. When the DVD player outputs the signal, it is converted to line 21 for the TV or display.

I am not aware of any way to add this after the fact, but then again, I’ve never tried.
