    Hi all,

    Does anyone here have any experience with making DCPs or prepping master files for DCPs? If so I could really use your help.

    I need to make a DCP with 5.1 Sound and a Visually Impaired track on track 8.

    My guess was that I should just added two mono tracks to my sequence which contains a 5.1 track (Screenshot 1), add the AD to A3 (which would be “track 8”), export a ProRes with the the 5.1 Channels (Screenshot 2), set the audio format to 5.1 (Screenshot 3) and then DCP-o-matic (the DCP making program I’m using) would interpret the 5.1 as the first 6 tracks then the other two extra ones. However it only seems to detecting 6 channels when I bring the file in (Screenshot 4).

    Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong?

    Your setting your output to 5.1 so that’s all you will get out of Avid.
    Also under no circumstances should you use 16 bit, 44.1khz Audio.
    It should always be 24 bit, 48khz, 44.1 is for music not Broadcast or DCP’s.
    I would also possibly setup your Timeline as a 7.1 Track or 8 Mono Tracks before outputting it.

    For audio, I would export 6 separate tracks labeled as needed for the 5.1. Those will get managed in the DCP creation program. I agree with 24bit, 48kHz.

    For the picture, make sure you are delivering whatever color space they want to have a starting point – be it Rec 709, or other and what expected black and white levels are. Many DCP applications can take in a MOV or MXF file to start. All o them take sequential files of some type like TIFF or DPX.

    What you don’t mention is frame rate – DCP is 24.000fps. If your source is 23.976, and again depending on the application being used, can deal with the speed up and audio correction. Other’s expect the sources to be at the proper rate.

    Same goes or subtitles or descriptive track. The timing of sources is 24.000fps.

    Work with whoever is creating your DCP to get the proper deliverables.

    Noted about the 24bit/44.1KHz audio settings. Thank you.

    I’m the one making the DCP as well, I’ve made a couple so I’ve generally got a hand on everything in regards to the visual aspects of it.

    Unfortunately, I’m still running into issues with the audio. I’ve set up the sequence with 8 mono tracks and adjusted the panning on the tracks accordingly. In the export I’ve set the Channels to 7.1 and the Audio Format to 7.1, DCP-o-matic is detecting the 8 channels and I’m making sure that the VI is assigned to channel 8. However, when I test the DCP on CinePlayer, the VI is playing from channel 3! I’m not sure if it’s the ProRes file I’ve made that’s the issue or I’m making an error with making the DCP?

    Have you tried exporting the channels as separate WAV files and seeing if DCP-O-Matic is any happier?

    That didn’t yield any results.

    Ended up solving it through Premiere. Set up a sequence with Multi-channel audio. Set up 8 channels, had the 5.1 going through the first 6 then two monos for 7 & 8.

    I need to make a DCP. However I need to make sure the movie gets masked at 1:66. Would I do that in my export or have the DCP do that process?
