  • Creating DVD in US to play on European DVD players

USA based FCP editor, could anyone let me know if there is anything in paticular I need to be warned about making a dvd on FCP that will be played on a DVD player made in Europe? I’m not sure if there would be any reason it would not work or if there is something I need to be aware of in the authoring. Sorry if this is a naive question – please point me in some directions if I need to know a difference.

    Thanks!

You just have to change your easy setup to PAL, that’s it.

If your piece is NTSC your DVD will be NTSC. It will still play in many DVD players in Europe, though, as most DVD players sold in Europe today play both NTSC and PAL. For the sake of certainty, however, you should convert your edited piece from NTSC to PAL and then make your PAL DVD. This can be done at many post houses using hardware or you can do it yourself using the Nattress conversion plug-in for FCP which is a great tool and at $100 is a bargain. Fantastic results.

Yes I agree with Neal. DVD players in Europe plays NTSC (all the films from America come in NTSC) but the defformation in the image is noticiable. If you want to do a better job, transcode it to PAL first and them make the PAL MPG2.
    Cheers,
    Rafael
