    Hello,

I am working on a project and wanted to know the best way to go about adding cracks in the ground that would grow over time. Kind of like an earthquake or when ice is cracking where it starts with one crack and branches out overtime. Any help would be appreciated!

one way I would try is to open the last frame (by exporting the frame), in Photoshop and create the cracks as you would like.

Then, use the Write-On effect to reveal the cracks as needed.

You can make duplicate copies of the layer and reveal different parts of the cracks.

Seems like you might need a little shake added and offsetting the ground over time as well.

    That’s just one idea.

Thanks I’ll try that! What do you think the best way to create the cracks would be?

If you have Illustrator that might be one of the better options. Otherwise you could try using a standard brush tool to create a mask for your crack layer in Photoshop, you can add subtle variation to this using a Render > Clouds filter in the RGB and mask channels. You would have the flexibility of altering the shape of the cracks (in the mask channel) or the color/texture of them (in the RGB channels).
