  • creating “behind the scenes” clips with visible layers and paths

    Hey!

Very often, motion designers showcase their work by including these AE “behind the scenes” clips which show the animation together with all the layer outlines, path trajectories etc.

How are these done? What is the most common practise? I thought it might be a screen grab recording but the path and layer outlines do not show when previewing in AE.

    – Are they screenshots, frame by frame, later put together?
    – Is there a way to preview in AE while showing all the layer outlines?
    – Are they fake and just recreated for the purpose of showing how the animation was made?
    – or maybe there are some plugings to assist with this?

I’d very much appreciate any insight into this topic, couldn’t find any info on this anywhere.

    Thanks!

There’s a button in the Preview panel to show overlays and layer controls in preview. You could enable this and then do a screen capture, or you could do the series of screenshots.

    Oh gosh.
Working in AE for 10 years and never noticed or knew about this button.
In retrospect, this sounds like a stupid question on my part ☺
    Thank You!

Haha well come on, our goal is to always use smoke and mirrors 😉
