  • Creating an alpha channel in After Effects for Media Composer

I have searched high and low and cannot seem to find an answer to what I thought was a simple thing.

I want to create some effect mattes in After Effects to use in Media Composer.

If I import footage of, say, a light leak or film burn into After Effects, how would I create an alpha channel so that I can use that effect as a real time matte key in Media Composer?

I know how to export an alpha channel, but I cannot figure out how to create one.

    Thanks!

With footage like light leaks, you can can use the free Red Giant Unmult effect [link] effect to quickly create an alpha channel from the source image.
