  • Creating a wave/slash effect

    Hey all,

I wanted to get some advice/help on a project I am currently trying to complete and need some pro opinions.

I recently shot a video for a waterpark. There are some really cool shots of the camera going down the slides, getting slashed as people come down the slides and into the water and just general playing around. Obviously there is a theme.

What I want to do is at the end of the video I would like to have an animated wave come crashing from the back, slowly take shape and crash (similar to what you see on a beach). As the wave crashes, I would like it to either form or reveal the logo of the waterpark. What I need help with is the actual wave itself. I know I could use one of the “water/splash” effects from pI within C4, something from particular in AE6.5 or use the stand alone of pI3. But I really want to (as well as my client) create a wave instead of a splash. I am NOT using any 3-D products so this will soley have to be done in either C4, AE6.5 Pro or pI3. Any and all advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

You might want to try AE 6.5’s ‘Wave World’. You get this plug-in from Adobe when you register AE. To get a wave effect, you would have to set the ground under the dropdown in effect controls, which would create the actual wave. Then you would animate the ground property so just when the wave crashes the logo of your waterpark becomes the new ground layer and shows up. You might also try AE’s ‘Caustics’ which can create the illusion of looking into a pool with reflections and sunlight.

    Thanks Josh,

Yeah, I am all too familiar with caustics but I have yet to play around with wave world. I guess there is no time like the present. I will give it a shot and see what I can develop. Thanks for the tip.

Artbeats has some amazing footage of waves that you could possibly use… mixed with some Mr. Mercury and ParticleIllusion perhaps?

This might not help but here’s a great tutorial on how to make a logo appear from a splash:
