I have this Unique scenario and requires me to put together a social media team comprising of a video team. What are your recommendations for putting together a video team for social media? Also what type of equipment do you recommend one to use ? Keep in mind, its a unique scenario and requires the best input/output to accurately get the message across.

*unique scenario to mean* – e.g discovery of plutonium. (think along those lines). Thank you in advance.

Your first critical pick would be a writer and a producer. This could be one person doing both jobs, but they need to be experienced. Everything and everybody else, you could rent as needed. And the producer would take care of that for you.

But without a good plan and good scripts, nothing else you spend money on is likely to pay off.

You are about to run into the biggest conundrum in the production arts right now.

Most of what’s “virally successful” on social media stems from content viewers come to see as “authentically valuable.”

Funny, moving, informative, whatever. It has to be HONEST before it’s anything else.

When you assemble a “team” to produce stuff like this – and worse, give that team an agenda to push. You are INSTANTLY veering towards being unauthentic.

People often don’t respond well to that anymore unless you just toss a boatload of money into promo, just as you might with advertising any gizmo.

So do your best to keep it small. Keep it simple. And keep our messaging as authentic as you can.

If the product has REAL value – and you get out of the way of that message as much as possible – you have a better chance than if you try to force your marketing vision on people.

    My 2 cents.

    YMMV.
