Creating a self-contained, editable chart graphic?
Hi all,
Hoping to get some help. My client has requested a way to create a preset that can be passed off to their client, and I’m at a loss how to do it. If anyone can chime in with helpful info it will be greatly appreciated.
The goal: a pie chart. (Exciting!)
Requirements:
- Executed within Premiere Pro.
- The solution must not use any external software! (After Effects, Illustrator, PowerPoint)
- UPDATE: A clarification to the terms: I can generate source imagery to be used in Premiere, but the client must not be required to edit the source imagery to make their changes. In example, I can create a PSD with a gradient in an ellipse and use it as a matte, and they’re fine with that. Creating the whole chart as a PSD and importing it is not OK.
- In spite of the previous requirement, a preset or plugin can be considered… (Irony much?)
- The solution must be editable, like a template or preset or script.
Not asking much, I know… Ha! Anyhow, I really would be grateful for any ideas.
I’m a motion graphics artist, and could do this with AE and other programs, but have been told this is not an option for my client’s client even after explaining that I’m pretty sure any solution within Premiere will be more complicated than I could create otherwise…

As much as it pains me to use the word, I’m pretty certain this is impossible with those restrictions.

I’m confident I could do it using transitions & the titler – there’s a radial wipe, right? Barring that, I could use a gradient wipe, with a radial gradient as a source, keying out color ranges to create slices… Or I’m sure there’s another way, but the issue is that I think that whatever I cook up in Premiere Pro will be more complicated than using an external program.
Any ideas to simplify?

Build it all.
Save the project.
Give them the proj.They can edit the text or the wipe.

Two things come to mind.
If plug-ins are OK…check Boris FX..they had a plug-in devoted to this specific function.
if not….
Create an animated circle wipe matte as a simple piece of ftg…0%-100%
Then you can use retiming in PPro to allow them set the progression to whatever % they want… as part of your nested layer setup.
That’s my best guess…

I know it’s possible to hand off the project; that’s what I meant in saying it could be a template.
But how might one simplify the construction of the element? My solution would involve a video layer for each point of the data set, with animations on each, resulting in a nested timeline with transform effects… The result would be a nightmare to edit / duplicate.
Can this be done in another, more simple way?
