    Hello all,
I’ve recently recorded some VO for my student film, and I want to make it into a convincing voicemail message. I just want the recorded VO to sound like a phone call or voice mail, and I’m sure there’s a quick and easy way to do it, but when I used the High Pass Filter (I think it was High Pass anyway), it made it passable, but somewhat incomplete. Any suggestions?

do you have access to soundtrack pro? there are some sweet filters in there that should be able to help you out!

An old trick we used to do was feed the sound through headphones and then mic the headphones to re-record that tinny small speaker sound.

These days, I use a convolution reverb with a phone impulse sample. using EQ, use both high pass (set to about 600hz) and a low pass (set to about 4khz). Also a lot of compression helps as well.
