We are shooting a kitchen scene, with glass jars that need to have floating ghost like glowing “things” inside them.

The Video will be HDV, and we want to create the effects in motion. Im pretty new to this so have been trying to add the effects but cant make them look like they are actually inside the jars. Everything looks flat and unconvincing.

Any tips on how I could get them to look like they are part of the 3D setting we filmed would be MOST appreciated.

    Thanks, thanks.

You’ve got to be able to put the jar back over the effect plate. Depending on how ou shot it, this could be impossible ro too complicated to work well.

You create your effect movie. Place it on top of your video track, positioned inside the jar. A copy of your video track that has only the jar goes on the upper track.

There are other ways to do this. But for something to be “inside” something else, you’ve got to be able to drop the object on top of the thing that ‘s inside the object.

I suspect that the key to this might be to duplicate the background layer and mask out everything but the jars. Then place your “ghost” animation between the jars and the background.
