I would like to create a 3d movie in after effects.
I have shots from two perspectives. What do I do
to combine them so they can be viewed as 3D through
Red/Blue glasses…is this a basic or advanced issue?

There is a 3D Glasses effect in AE that will do this for you. It’s under Effects > Channel > 3D Glasses.

I’ve had some fun with this filter, using graphics only and not footage. I used a 3D animated cube (cobbled together out of 6 square solids and pre-comped) that bounced in an out of 3D space, and a camera with the depth of field set fairly shallow. Looked great through my 3D glasses, but hurt my eyes after a while (I suspect it was the computer monitor doing that).
