I’m looking to animate an actual motion path. Currently, I’m animating a stroke along a shape path using ‘Trim Paths’, while at the same time I am animated the path to form different shapes. What I want to be able to do, is attach a shape object to this animated path. Currently I can select the shape path and copy it, apply it to the position attribute of the shape layer, but unfortunately the motion path only applies to one instance of the original shape path.

Is there a solution or a way around this? Appreciate any help!

Theory: You could do a trim path on the animated path to draw a dot at that point in the path you want the shape to be at, render it out and track the point, then apply the tracking data to the shape. If shape alignment to path is needed, you could create two dots (of different color) near that same point and track them both to include rotation information.
