The answer to both of your question is yes, it can be done in AFX.

As for the best way, it would be simplist to do the bouncing ball by just animating or keyframing the position of the ball and using bezier curves at the apex of the bounce. I would recommend a new ball for each shot or line and then you can simply duplicate the layer and move the keyframes to correspond to the new text.

As for the color changing text, the simplist way I can think of is to have your text layer in white. Create a new yellow layer comp size and create a mask. Animate the mask to slide over in time to the music. Then, duplicate the original text layer so that you have one text layer above and one layer below your yellow layer. Next, use track mattes and use the original text layer as an alpha or luma matte. Make sure you turn back on the opacity of the white layer.

Then you should be able to do either method.

    Best of luck

If you were going to go with the ball version, I think I would probably animate the ball bouncing up and down and pre-comp that… then you can just animate the side to side movement for each line without having to worry about getting the height consistent all the time.

You’d have to find the right timing for the words, because the ball should only start moving sideways after a bounce, for the most natural movement. (slightly hard to explain, but i think if you animated a sideways move starting when the ball was mid-air it would look awkward).

If you’re going with the color fill, then you can actually animate it using the text engine. Just animate the fill property of the text layer. I don’t have AE in front of me know but it’s under the text layer’s animators.
