Of course: Numbers or Excel spreadsheets work fine. Just keep the order of the columns the same as FCP.

Alright…I’ve got it working (kinda)

I import the clips in…time code is coming in correct on my offline clips…

Issue is…I really wanted to (and neglected to mention) that I want all these clips to be subclips of ONE media file I already have…they aren’t coming off tape…so when I reconnect one of the offline files…it really needs to be a subclip of the source file. Is there a way to label the offline clip as a subclip?

Oh…well you needed to say that.

No, there is no way internally with FCP that you can do that. There is, however, third party software that might be able to do just that. Reconnect smaller clips to one large already captured file, FCP RECONNECT:

Sorry to not mention that at the beginning…forgot that I wouldn’t be batch digitizing them….

Do you use FCP reconnect to do this? I watched the tutorial…seems maybe a LITTLE over my head…I may be able to figure it out, but before I got it I wanted to make sure it definitely could.

I have used FCP reconnect to reconnect several clips to one big master clip that I had to recapture from scratch, because the person who did the initial capture didn’t allow for Pre roll. So when the media went offline (drive died) I couldn’t recapture that tape as logged. So I had to recapture it again, and because it had different IN and OUT points, and DURATION, then FCP couldn’t see it. But FCP reconnect worked wonders.

If this is a little over your head, then I suggest sticking to doing things manually. Take their IN and OUT points, load the clip into the viewer, use those (manually typing them) to make subclips that you then name how they named.

FCP reconnect will save you tons of time.

I got brave…and downloaded the program. I’ve gotten it to work! Thanks so much…this is a huge timesaver.

Quick question on how to make it work better…when I export a batch list from FCP to select the clips to link it up to…it exports EVERYTHING from my bin. Is there a way to export a batch list of selected items? I just went into text editor and deleted the other stuff I didn’t want to mess with…

well, how about just creating a new bin, put the stuff you want to export there and export?

The way my experience is (FCP7) is when I export -> Batch List. It exports EVERY clip in my project REGARDLESS of what I have selected.
