  • Create new clip on timecode break Problem

    Hi everyone,
Tech Stuff: 8-core mac pro, Xserve RAID, blackmagic decklink card, FCP 6.

I’m trying to capture 10-bit 4:2:2 as ProResHQ through SDI on my blackmagic card. The client shot time of day code, and I have my preferences set to “create new clip on timecode break”. Now, it is doing this, but instead of just continuing to capture and creating new clips it stops everytime there is new code, finds the timecode break, and pre-rolls 2 seconds and begins to capture again.

Now, I know when I capture through firewire from HDV sources and DV sources it will just create new clips on the fly without having to stop at each break. So what gives? Is it just too much information for Final Cut to handle doing this on the fly? Thanks,
    Matt

HDV is a different format. With any other format, what you’re experiencing is normal behavior. HDV is the only format I’ve seen that can keep rolling through TC breaks. DV acts likea all the other formats.

If you go to Audio Video Settings > Device Control Preset tab – you can try to change the pre and post roll options for the deck you’re using… you might be able to lower the pre roll duration and still get the deck to accurately capture… but what your experiencing is far from being out of the ordinary. It mostly depends on your deck but most likely you will lose some frames in there.
