is there a program to create growing objects, or to fold objects? (any tutorials to follow along with these ideas?) I’ve seen some really cool motion graphics stuff that i was to try to replicate…

Checkout the COW’s list of AE tutorials for growing things – lines/vines. As for folds, I can’t recall any other than Serge’s filmstrip COW Tutorial.

To make a folding object, you can divide a layer into masked out portions that border on eachother. Then set the anchor point to right at the fold or point on the mask that just touches the next mask. Then separate it into different layers for each mask and parent the layers to eachother so that each is parented to the next layer (or layer before depending on the type of fold). Then if you are doing a fold on x rotation for instance, set every other layer to have an expression with a multiplication of -1 on the x rotation property. Let me know if this is really confusing, haha.
