Create Convincing Photo Animation
Hello, I am using photo animations within my video and they are coming across as looking too fake and draw too much attention. How can I use filters or other methods to animate the photos? Currently I am just zooming and panning with the photos and have added noise animation to spice it a bit. What else can I do to make these photos come to life? Thanks.

Very cool. I have seen similar things done through after effects. In motion is it just as simple as duplicating and masking? Any tutorials to explain in detail the process in motion? Thanks.

Sorry Jeff, I’m not aware of any free tutorials for Motion on this, yet…I’ll have one available at the beginning of next year. But that won’t help you right now. This is how I like to do it:
Cut photo in layers in PhotoShop.
Bring in layered PSD and important the PSD layered.
Take the different layers and separate their Z distance.
Move the camera and it will create the cool look.Hope this helps.

Hey Jeff, Mark Spencer, has a tutorial on this on his website (applemotion.net) you may have to dig around but it on there. The trick to making them look good is to use a program like Photoshop to seperate your layers and to clone/fill in your seperated object area so if you scale/move your front object you don’t see a hole.
