ok guys….here’s the image i must animate.

it’s three strokes…but i choppped it up a little in photoshop so now it’s 6 strokes. each of them will animate in as if they are being brushed on. but i REALLY need help with it. right now i’m doing it all manually with a feathered mask moving every little freakin’ keyframe.

there’s gotta be a better way right?

here’s a picture of the image:

the strokes revealing have to look like as if they’re being made by real strokes…u know…like…little streaks, not just a feathered ends.

how could i make that happen? right now i just made feathered masks and animated them, but it’s gotta look more like streaks..

    please let me know.
it’s really help me out a lot.

    thanx so much,

    _chris

Have you tried using the stroke effect to reveal each pen stroke? You use the stroke effect as an animated matte to reveal the pen stroke you’ve done.

Look on the COW for a “signature” tutorial — it may help.

    yeah…i tried that.

worked great…BUT…what the producer wants it to look like there’s streaks.
instead of it just being a feathered masked that reveals it…he wants it to look more like “streaky”.

how could i get that effect?

Oh, sorry .. I get it. Hmm …

I recommend using Trapcode’s 3DStroke to reveal it, using its Repeater feature to create multiple thin strokes that are offset a bit (try in Y or Z), and using the taper feature to make the end of each stroke sharp. So you get multiple thin, tapered strokes.

That’s my take on it, anyway. Can’t think of a simple way with AE alone …

If you don’t have Trapcode (which I don’t and I’m sure many people don’t) you could try using the stroke effect several times. You know how you make a motion path with the mask tool to get the stroke to reveal your image? Well, you could create several duplicate images and apply a slightly different motion path to each layer, creating a streaky look. Obviously the width of the stroke has to be fairly small on each one so that they each reveal a small portion of the logo. Then, if you want the logo to “fill in” all the way after it is brushed on, you can animate the stroke size (not sure what the proper term is here) and all your individual strokes will eventually reveal the whole thing. To make it look less smooth and more realistic you could try roughening the edges of your strokes. Hope that helps. Let me know what you end up doing!

I would use the main image as a track matte for the work you are going to do. I would then use vector paint and record the strokes (shift paint records) to reveal each stroke. I would probably apply a turbulent displace to the paint strokes to get a more unique and organic look to the strokes. I am not sure if this will give the streaks that you are looking for, but using the scale of the displacement you may be able to get something very close.

You could also use the ipod streak tutorial and redraw the logo with a diagonal line as your brush. If you don’t want to use the drawn logo then instead use this streaked logo as a matte. I think it may look little better than using strokes because reveal will have a nice sharp daigonal line like the pen and you can easily create irregularities in your brush to create that streaky look.

Adobe Illustrator has several pen styles that will create that look very easily. I am discovering just how powerful its path making abilities are.
