Create an MXF file out of FCP6 or Compressor 3

Sorry…you can’t do it with the software you mentioned. It’s too old to meet those specs. Best bet is to export a self contained QT file, and take it to a post facility that does this…like AlphaDogs in Burbank, or Fancy Film in Los Feliz.

I did do it before, about 2 years ago when Lifetime was first talking about doing file based delivery and they said I got very close to what they wanted, but I can’t for the life of me remember what I did or what program I used.

Can it be done in FCP 7 or the version of Compressor that is in that suite?

I took a look at Adobe Media Encoder in the Creative Cloud suite and the list of options was far greater, but still my only choice of audio output was Uncompressed. I could choose the number of tracks and whether it was 16 or 24 bit, but I can’t change it to PCM.

The way you do it is FILE -> EXPORT -> Sony XDCAM Browser

If you haven’t lo0aded the Sony XDCAM Transfer program and the Sony XDCAM Browser program, you will only see Sony XDCAM… in the Export menu.

I can now export to XDCAM BUT!!! I get additional black added to the footage – like 2 to 4 times as much as the original footage. I would be interested to see if you get the same.

Thanks Patrick, but that didn’t work as you described.

I installed XDCam Browser and still don’t see it in the File>Export options.
I only have File>Export>Sony XDCAM.

I even rebooted the system after the install.

I know it’s installed because I can see it i n Applications and even open it, but I can’t bring and MOV of the final show into it to convert and export.

OK. On my 2 Macs, in my haste, I installed 3 of Sony’s programs. I’m not sure which one, or if all of them collectively, give you the “Sony XDCAM Browser” option:

XDCAM Browser 2_1
PDZK-P1 XDCAM Transfer v2_13_0
Log and Transfer Plug-in Version 1.2 For Apple Final Cut Pro 7

These are all on that same Sony Micro Site XDCAM Page.

Hopefully, that should work. If it does, could you tell me if extra black footage is added to your clips? Like 2x to 4x’s as much as the original?

I had XDCAM Browser 2_6 and PDZK-P1 XDCAM Transfer v2_13_0 installed.

I just downloaded and installed Log and Transfer Plug-in Version 1.2 it does not specify for FCP 6 or 7.

I’m running 6 and it installed fine.

I rebooted the computer after the install and still no FILE -> EXPORT -> Sony XDCAM Browser.

I promise if I ever get it figured out, I’ll let you know if it adds extra black.

It may be because it’s FCP 6. Somewhere along the way, the Sony site says it’s for FCP 7 or 10.

Sadly, that may now be a different issue for you.

Though I may be in the same boat as many other 3rd party apps require OSX 10.9 or higher, of which FCP 7 will not work anymore…
