I want to create a re-usable a/b transition, meaning alpha channel for both incoming and outgoing video to be used in FCP. My graphic element fills the screen vertically and want that to use that as the wipe edge.
I have seen these canned effects before, can AE 7 do this?

The problem I am running into is that clip A needs to keep playing as the element wipes across it revealing clip B which is also running. Almost like I need a mask to cover up clip A and reveal clip B. Does that make sense?
    I know alpha channel.
    Thanks

What does your graphic element look like, and what do you expect it to do during the transition?
