  • Create a proposed road over aerial mountain video?

I have 1 hour of aerial footage of a mountainous region. I want to add a line to represent a future road, and use this as an overlay on the video. The line would need to look 3-dimensional to follow the surface of the landscape, over hills, around curves, and somehow compensate for changing camera angles. In other words, the road needs to be placed very precisely.

Any ideas how I can do this, aside from drawing frame by frame? I have never used Motion… would that be a better place to start than Final Cut?

(I have GPS coordinates for this road, so I can reference mapping software.)

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I’m at a total loss!!!

The process of “reverse engineering” the camera position is called Match Moving. There are plenty of other software solutions out there, but Final Cut Pro is not one of them. I would suggest researching this and going from there. Best of luck.
