So I worked on a premiere pro CS5 project a few months back. I’ve just loaded it back up for the first time in a while to finish it. The project file is 1.28gb size and runs preettty slow. I made some minor changes and saved it under a new name. The new file is over 5GB and makes my computer go SUPER slow.

All I need to do now is to render it in Adobe Media Encoder.. but when I try to load it up, it takes forever and then jsut gets stuck.

I tried it on my brothers computer and the same happens, it takes about a million hours to load up in premiere.

Another weird thing about it.. It is 5gb yet it wont fit onto an empty 16gb USB Stick. I had to put it onto an external HD just to transfer it. Its driving me mental, I’ve been waiting the whole day for itto load and save and stuff.

If there’s anyone that can help we with this.. or at least help me understand it, I would be very grateful!

    Thanks,
    Lloyd

    Hi lloyd,

1.28gb ?? Sounds like we need to talk about project management 🙂

The first thing I would do is head to the project manager and remove unused footage, and even possibly reduce the project by using the trim option to copy clips to a new location, then SAVE AS A NEW FILE.

That should lessen the load a bit and give your RAM a heart beat once again.

I’m guessing that you haven’t installed the latest updates. Do so. Choose Help > Updates.

In general, it is a very good idea to install the updates. They fix bugs like the one that is biting you.

    Thanks guys.

I tried the Trim option (thanks so much for that, I never knew it existed). I saved it but it didn’t make too much of a difference. It’s really strange because I have a previous version of the project that is much much smaller in size, but not too different inside. Can it have been corrupt somehow or something? Can that happen?

I haven’t got the new update so I’ll give it a go.
