Crashing AFTER clips are captured
Hi, everyone… nice to be here.
I’m an Avid editor who’s learning FCP on a PowerMac G4 I purchased second-hand with FCP HD 4.5 preinstalled on it. I’m running OS X v. 10.4.9 and have a Canon XL1 firewired into the Mac. I am able to control the deck and log clips and even capture them, but as soon as I attempt to open a clip, either by double-clicking or dragging it to the Viewer, it shuts the entire program down. Every time. The presumably captured clip does not show up in the Browser when I reopen the software and the project.
Here are the possible intangibles: I created a custom capturing profile, whose only difference from the NTSC default is that it keeps the speaker on while I log and capture (I understand that newer versions of FCP let you do that automatically and wonder why such a critical thing wasn’t possible before); it has also been suggested to me that when I upgraded iLife in order to get iDVD (my pre-loaded version did not have that), it automatically upgraded QuickTime to the current v. 7.1.3 and it isn’t compatible with FCP HD 4.5 (I do not have the disks so I can’t reinstall it). I should mention that I AM able to capture and play clips from the same camera through iMovie, so it must have something to do with the capture settings on FCP.
Any thoughts at all? I am able to learn the program through tutorials and imported footage, but I suspect that capturing footage just might be a good thing to be able to do. MANY THANKS!
David
