Seems so weird. I previously had a dual dual-core 3.2 Woodcrest Xeon system; now I have a dual quad-core 5420 Xeon setup overclocked to 3.0Ghz. Maybe it’s chipset or something? Why isn’t my system crashing?

I know another editor in town with a similar system, but with a different video card and different Quad-core chips. He also can only run Premiere with 4 cores turned off.

Could the common denominator be 64 bit OS? On XP 32 there is no problem with 8 cores.

No – both of these machines have the same problem on the 32 bit OS – We both have dual boot – XP32 & XP64
