  • Crash record on a Panasonic HD1200A Deck!! (Please Help)

Ok, I’m trying to do a “Crash Record” on a Panasonic AJ-HD1200A Deck via firewire (because this is a software only version of Media Composer 4.0.5. on this Mac). I’ve been trying to lay off this 10 minute sequence for nearly 2 hours and I haven’t had any luck. What are the settings on the Digital Cut Tool supposed to be? I’m lost.

I have deck control for the 1200A from the Digital cut tool. I’ve transcoded my entire spot to the DVCPRO HD format and Re-Created all of my title media. So, How do I do this “Crash Recored”? What are the settings? My only connection to the HD1200A is a Firewire cable. Is that ok for both Audio and Video?

I’m stuck. Do I need to be using a blacked tape? Does there need to be a black burst signal feeding the BNC reference signal on the back of the deck for me to perform a digital “Crash Record” cut via Firewire.

Can somebody please help? I’m rapidly running up against my deadline.

    Sincerely,
Thank you. thank you. thank you. -Rob

Is your timeline set to output 1394? I don’t remember exactly where, but there should be a little button somewhere saying ‘1394’… As long as that is set, you really shouldn’t need the digital cut tool – just hit play on your timeline and play / record on your deck…

Thank you Jon. I’ve managed to get the spot onto tape at about 3am this morning.

Now, my issue is a major digital artifacting. The audio sounds fine but the image while playing at regular speed, kinda resembles what you see when you are scanning a Digibeta tape in fast-forward.

I think it probably has to do with a setting in the deck’s menu. I just can’t seem to figure out which one. Any guesses?

I’m pretty sure you can’t get HD through firewire. You’d need a Mojo DX to do that…
